Turino Junaidy
Turino Junaidy was an Indonesian filmmaker. Born in Padangtiji, Aceh. Education: SLA, Radio Telegraphist course in Medan (1943), Cinematography & film production course in Tokyo (1964), in support of the Colombo Plan. In Sumatra, Turino circulated Egyptian films with satisfactory results. For the first time saw the film Indonesia Waiting for Love (1949) in Medan. He was interested in the film starring Hamid Arief when Turino tried to get Indonesian films in Jakarta to be distributed. In Jakarta, he was even offered to play in a film by the company Golden Arrow (now Panah Mas). Even though he was confused, he eventually appeared in several films, including Lamenting the Heart (1950), Seruni Laju (1951), Si Mientje (1952), under the name T. Djunaedi.
Because his first intention was to enter film as a merchant, in the early 1950s he founded his own company, G.A.F. Sang Saka — which produced Pulang (1952), Rentjong & Surat (1953), Sri Asih (1954), and Corporal Djono (1954), in which he was also the main player. In Sri Asih, he also served as Director, playing with Mimi Mariani who later became his wife between 1955-1958. Then he played for other film companies. Among them appeared in Oh My Mother (1955) and Taman Harapan (1957). And on December 13, 1959, he founded his own company again PT Sarinande Film (until now). His first production was Iseng (1959) which featured the names Alwi and Oslan Hussein.
PT Sarinande has produced more than 30 films since early 1978. Turino also mentored assistant directors who later became directors, such as Hasmanan and Bay Isbahi. When the film world was hit by the downturn in the 1960s, Sarinande was never absent from filmmaking. Turino's name became more and more famous after making Breathing in the Mud (1970) which achieved tremendous commercial success. Subsequent films from Turino no longer made as much money as Breathe In Mud. Apart from being active in his company, as a director, producer, director, and story/screenwriter, Turino is also active in film organizations, such as PPFI and the National Foundation for the Indonesian Film Festival (YFI). This foundation has been organizing FFI every year since 1973. Among his films: are Madju Tak Gentar (1964), Djakarta Hongkong Macao (1968), Intan Berduri (1972), where Benjamin S and Rima Melati were selected as the Best Players of FFI 1973, Wadjah A Man (1971) , Honeymoon Mist (1972), End of a Dream (1973), Boyfriend (1974), Crisis X (1975), Hot Twists of Love (1976), Selangit Mesra (1977), Adventurer of Love (78), and others.
